Petrobras website receives international awards

Rio de Janeiro, April 2, 2008). – PETRÓLEO BRASILEIRO S/A - PETROBRAS, [Bovespa: PETR3/PETR4, NYSE: PBR/PBRA, Latibex: XPBR/XPBRA, BCBA: APBR/APBRA], a Brazilian international energy company, announces that  on the occasion of the 10th  edition of the international Investor Relations Global Rankings 2008 (IRGR) event in São Paulo, Petrobras’ Investor Relations site ( received six awards among which was the Best On-line Annual Report of the Oil and Gas Industry award. Petrobras competed from a selection of 160 companies from 32 countries.

In the Financial Times Digital Business Report published today, April 2, Petrobras’ corporate site ( is ranked third among oil companies in the item “how well do websites serve society”, covering a spectrum of 75 sites of the largest corporations in the world.

Investor Relations Global Rankings 2008, which awarded six prizes to Petrobras’ Investor Relations area, is an international event which is held annually by MZ Consulting, with the support of PR Newswire, KPMG, Bloomberg, The Bank of New York Mellon, NYSE Euronext, Arnold & Porter Associados e Demarest & Almeida Advogados.

In addition to the Best On-line Annual Report for the Oil and Gas Industry (TOP1) in the Global category, the Company received the following awards in the POP + Latin America category where votes are cast by the public at large:

•              Best Investor Relations Website

•              Best IR Program

•              Best IR Team

•              Best Financial Disclosure Practices

•              Best Corporate Governance Practices

 The Best On-Line Annual Report is awarded according to technical criteria and based on research conducted by MZ Consult’s analysts. The results were discussed and reviewed by an independent technical committee made up of KPMG Auditores Independentes and Arnold & Porter Associados and Demarest & Almeida Advogados.         

These six accolades are recognition of Petrobras’ work on focusing quality and the transparency in the relationship with the capital markets. It is the Company’s concern to treat research analysts, investors, shareholders and other stakeholders on a equitable basis in supplying reliable information in real time. The awards are at one and the same time a stimulus and a challenge for Petrobras to increasingly seek and maintain the level of excellence in its communication with the market. In the Financial Times’ overall ranking, Petrobras was placed 47th, the only other Brazilian company cited being Vale in 48th position.

According to the “how well do websites serve society” criterion, Petrobras’ site is in third place behind only BP and Shell, among the oil companies surveyed. The Petrobras site scored 24 out of a maximum of 32 points for this item. According to the same criterion, our site leads other companies in the oil industry such as Total, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips,  Lukoil, Gazprom and Sinopec.

The Financial Times classifies the Petrobras site as an example of providing greater access to corporate governance.  In the overall ranking, Siemens heads the list  and two oil companies tie for second place, BP and Shell. The following oil companies also feature in the general classification: ENI (12º), Chevron (16), Total (18º), ExxonMobil (29º), Lukoil (65º), Gazprom (71º), Sinopec (73º).
